| What about alcohol?
From the beginning, we have tried to keep the cost per person low to attract as many of you as possible to this reunion. The Lakewood Country Club, for example, was over $50 per person, hors doevres only. Drinks were extra. For that reason, and for the nostalgia, we selected Winfrey Point, a venue that has produced fond memories for Woodrow grads for decades. Before we checked with the City, we announced that there would be a cash bar. However, the City of Dallas Parks Department has strict rules regarding alcohol. Without a lot of detail, suffice it to say, we blew it by assumption without checking first with the City - - - we cannot "sell" alcohol on the premises. We can, however, serve it and either include it in the price of registration or take a "donation" to cover our costs. So, to avoid penalizing those who do not wish to drink alcohol, we computed the cost of beer, wine, cups, ice, .cleanup, etc. and came up with about $9.73 per person. This number is based on consultation with professionals who shared their experience with us and our past experience at other reunions. Therefore, if you choose to drink, the "donation" will be an additional $10 per person. We prefer that you include the amount when you mail your registration fee. There will also be opportunity at the door. Sorry, no refunds will be made, due to pre-purchase of all items. How should we dress? Be cool and comfortable. Winfrey Point is now air conditioned in the main area, but with all the doors opening frequently, it may get warm. Will I receive a ticket? No actual tickets will be printed to help keep costs down. Your name will be added to the "paid" list which will be checked at the door. No metal detectors or scanners. When we were in school, the only terrorists were the teachers. Who and what determines the price of tickets? As stated above, we have tried to keep costs to a minimum and provide a memorable, enjoyable and affordable evening for everyone. It is no simple task to estimate the number in attendance, cater the evening and cover all the many bases necessary to pull off a great time. After exploring several alternatives, the plan took shape as it is. Some will still complain, but, unless we the committee want to pay for the deficit out of our pockets (which we don't) we have set the prices to the best of our ability within the real and anticipated costs. As in years past, an account of any surplus is available and those funds, if any, have been and will be applied to the next reunion. If you have more questions, feel free to ask. So, who pays for the committee? The committee pays for the committee. We are not tour organizers in for a free ride. The work we gladly do is pro bono and contributed toward a great experience for all. We all pay our own way. If you would like to volunteer to help in some capacity, please click here to let us know. Who is coming? Click here for a current list of those who are planning to attend. This list will probably be incomplete the moment you click on it, so check back for updates. But remember, our experience with past reunions is that many may not appear until the night of the reunion. Are my kids or other family members invited? Adult family and adult children are welcome. Children who require supervision should not attend. The price is the same regardless of age. Under-age children are the responsibility of the parent or guardian. A police officer will be on duty for security and supervisory purposes. Why are these other classes invited? Their are many of us who have friends, relatives and share memories with the classes of '61 and '63. They have graciously invited us to attend their reunions in the past. We thought it would be fun to have as many of them attend as would like to. Experience suggests that relatively few will do so, however, but we hope for more. Will there be a photographer? There is no plan for a photographer at this time. Disposal cameras will be available and several digital cameras will be present for snapshots, as usual. We hope to publish as many as possible after the reunion on this web site. More about photos. Will a directory be available? A directory will be published from information received. Please send your updated information to: ww62@spedat.com. Include an additional $5 each directory with your registration. The above list will be appended as needed. |
